John Worthy is a seasoned leader with more than 30 years of experience spanning construction, finance, nonprofit management, and veteran advocacy. A service-disabled veteran and certified minority business owner, he has built a career rooted in strengthening communities and expanding access to opportunity for underserved populations.
Worthy currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Spartan General Contracting LLC, a certified DBE, MBE, and service-disabled veteran-owned firm. With a decade of experience as a licensed City of Chicago general contractor, he has positioned the company as a trusted partner in both commercial and residential construction across the Chicago metropolitan area.
He also leads DOLL INC., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families through affordable housing, workforce development, and supportive services. Under his leadership, the organization addresses critical gaps in resources available to veterans, creating pathways toward stability and self-sufficiency.
As Founder and Vice President of the Renewable Energy Workers Union International, Worthy advances workforce development in the growing renewable energy sector, advocating for equitable training and employment opportunities.
Earlier in his career, Worthy spent 25 years in commercial mortgage financing as a broker, developing deep expertise in real estate investment and finance—knowledge he now applies to affordable housing initiatives.
His commitment to service began in the United States Army, where he served four years on a mobile nuclear missile launch crew in Germany during the Cold War, followed by two years in the Illinois National Guard. He later served as State Commander of the National Association of Black Veterans, championing policies and programs to improve outcomes for minority veterans.
